Everyone struggles with life and feels “down” from time to time, regardless of age, gender, or circumstances. Personally, I have gone through down times as well, and I believe that it is possible to overcome and even learn from these struggles to live with greater freedom, purpose and joy.
Embarking on a journey in counselling is not always easy, but I believe and have witnessed the difference it can make. One of the aspects of my work that I enjoy is being able to celebrate successes as you progress toward your goals. As a counsellor, my role is to support, inspire, challenge and motivate my clients in a safe and confidential environment.
Although asking for help can be a difficult thing to do, I aim to provide a safe and comfortable environment where you can take that leap. I work collaboratively with clients—where you get to decide how much of your story you are comfortable sharing with me. I help you get “unstuck” from potentially destructive or harmful patterns at your pace, trusting that as you become more attuned to your inner world, you will learn to reflect on thoughts, opinions, feelings and beliefs that will naturally help you move towards healing.
My work frequently leads me to clients with issues related to major life events (eg. divorce, break-ups, financial crises, health issues, quarter or mid-life crises), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), mood disorders, depression, anxiety, work-related stress, anger, blended family issues, grief and loss, and lack of self-esteem. I have been privileged to work with a variety of clients ranging from young adults to the elderly, from diverse racial, social and economic backgrounds, including locals and expatriates. When working with clients one-on-one, I use an integrative client-based approach calling upon various therapeutic approaches such as person-centered, cognitive-behavioural, existential, Gestalt, emotion-focused, solutions-focused, and expressive arts therapy.
I am a registered and licensed professional counsellor with the Malaysia Board of Counsellors. Besides that, I am trained in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an empirically-supported treatment for trauma, and Discernment Counselling. I am also trained in Psychological First Aid (Johns Hopkins University), as well as the Cerny Smith Assessment (for stress). Through continuous supervision and keeping up with the latest research, I ensure that I provide my best service to clients while adhering to ethical standards of therapy. My work experience includes over twenty years in organisational administration, marketing, and Employee Assistance Programme management. I provide talks to corporate employees on topics related to managing stress and mental well being.
“Everyone is destined to experience not only the exhilaration of life, but also it inevitable darkness: disillusionment, aging, illness, loss, meaninglessness, painful choices, and death…We are all in this together and there is no person immune to the inherent tragedies of existence.”
