Clinical Psychologist

M. Clin. Psy. (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia)

I have always been in awe of the human ability to take hold of passion, resiliency, and zeal for life. Our capacity to grow, heal, and redefine ourselves reminds me that in spite of adverse circumstances, we can always tap into hope and strength to overcome challenges.

My role as a clinical psychologist in Rekindle is to help clients overcome challenges in their lives by developing insight and awareness into their situation through assessments and psychological testing, and by helping clients identify and tap into their unique strengths for healing. As I am a strong advocate for mental health awareness, a crucial aspect of my work is also to empower my clients, and their families, with knowledge to help spread a preventative approach to mental illness.

I’m well-versed in using these assessment tools: The Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence, non-verbal intelligence testing, Conner’s Rating Scale, Dyslexia Screening Test and neuro-psychological assessments. In conducting assessments, I use a holistic, systemic approach as human behavior and personality are multifaceted and complex. In other words, I aim to help my clients understand these aspect of themselves from a well-rounded and balanced perspective.

I use Solution Focused Therapy to help clients explore possible solutions rather than to remain stuck in the issues they are facing. I also use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients become aware of how their thoughts affect their behaviours and feelings. Such awareness creates a platform for them to work towards modifying these elements to achieve their objectives in therapy. The skills they learn in therapy can then be further applied to improve other areas of their lives.

I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. I have previously been attached to Pusat Perubatan Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Hospital Kajang and also Klinik Kesihatan Psikologi Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. During these attachments in the medical sector, my scope of work included providing assessments, diagnoses, conducting interventions and building community-awareness for both in- and out-patients. I have also worked as a Social Worker with the Women’s Aid Organisation attending to survivors of violence, and also with refugees in the International Rescue Committee. Currently, I volunteer as the Secretary of the Women’s Aid Organisation. In addition to my private practice at Rekindle, I work as a therapist at Sunway University’s Counselling Unit under the Student Services Department. My work there consists of counselling and mentoring students, and providing training and talks to build awareness of mental health issues.

During my free time, I enjoy card-making, origami folding and reading. I also love to get my passport stamped and experience diverse cultures and food. I enjoy writing and hope to publish contemporary articles and maintain a lifestyle blog one day.
