My past experiences have greatly contributed to who I am today and my work as a counsellor. The experience of being crippled by fear and anxiety, and the hopelessness I felt about life – I truly wished to have someone whom I could talk to and to journey with me in that valley. Thankfully, at the end of the valley, I managed to find hope again. And I strongly believe that in your valleys too, you can find the light at the end of the tunnel.
As your therapist, I will journey with you, and I will pace alongside you, like tailing the head of a comet that is you. I believe in the power of healing from attuning well with my clients as that leads to a safe therapeutic relationship. I may be the expert of my life as a counsellor, but I also believe that you are the expert of your own life, and together we can collaborate to form an alliance working towards change and healing.
I have worked with clients of different backgrounds and cultures, and I am still constantly learning to expand my knowledge and expertise to facilitate my clients better in their own values, beliefs, and cultures. I am relatively new to conducting couple and family therapy, however I am keen to learn and to get the necessary training and supervision as I grow in this area of work.
I practice several approaches in my therapeutic work including Emotion-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Brainspotting, and parts work.
I received my master’s degree in Counselling from HELP University, Malaysia. I also volunteered at an NGO and worked with adolescents from single parent families. Before I became an associate at Rekindle Therapy, I was a clinical intern at Rekindle Academy for one and a half years. During my internship, I worked with adolescents, young adults, and parents who struggled to cope with life issues within school life, career, family, and relationships. I also worked with individuals with concerns, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, overwhelming stress, eating disorders, self-harm, grief, and existential crises.
During my leisure time, I enjoy having a cup of coffee with a book or a nice movie. Occasionally I will hop on a ride for a spontaneous one-day trip with friends and loved ones.
